Therapeutic Hypnosis (Hypnotherapy)
Hypnotherapy is one of the most pleasant complementary therapies available.
It is a natural state of relaxation and heightened awareness gently stimulated by your therapist’s use of language & suggestion. It is an altered state of consciousness that we experience every day, without even knowing it – it is a powerful, effective, natural part of you.
The trance state is a process that everyone experiences without realising it: it happens automatically any time that you become deeply relaxed or highly focused. It happens when you are engrossed in a book or a piece of music, when you are daydreaming or meditating.
When in hypnosis you will feel very relaxed, just like that wonderful feeling when you are drowsy, lying in your bed. It is an induced state of focused concentration, in which the subconscious part of a person’s mind becomes more easily accessible. Remember that therapists do not solve your problems for you.
The therapist’s role is to act as a guide to help you to explore and discover the changes that you want to make in your life and to give your subconscious mind suggestions that will help bring about those changes. The therapist helps to gently release blocks and fears and create a new inner belief that will set the wheels in motion to help you to make changes in the way you think, feel and behave.
Hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep or unconsciousness. People vary greatly in their experiences during hypnosis – but you do not ‘go under’ – you remain fully aware of your surroundings.
Anyone who wants to be hypnotised can be. It’s natural. You can even learn the technique of self-hypnosis, which can be practiced at home to reinforce the usefulness of formal sessions with a therapist.
How many sessions will I need?
The beginning of the first consultation consists of a discussion to explore relevant information that could be incorporated into the hypnosis session. After this discussion, if we both decide that we wish to proceed, we move on to the hypnosis itself.
You may need only one session, or you may need several. This depends on the type of therapy you are seeking and on your motivation and progress, every session & every client is an individual!
